Exterior Painting

The purpose of painting is to make the house look better or to protect it from damage by water, rust, corrosion, insects and mold.
The modern composition of paints results in latex formulations being widely used for exterior as well as interior. That reduces post painting cleanup, and reduces the smells associated with petroleum and polyester based paints. Computerized paint scanners formulate new paints to match the often faded colour of existing paints. Many chain stores offer colour matching service.
Modern paints are available in various specialized formulations that can be fade resistant, chip resistant, odor free, antibiotic to resist mould and fungi growth, etc.

Step by Step Exterior Painting

Step 1: Washing. All of the areas that will be painted within your scope of work will be thoroughly washed. We use a 10-1 bleach detergent solution and a conical injector on the pressure washer. This will remove all mildew, algae dirt and salt deposits.
Step 2: Tarping. All of the surfaces and landscaping to be worked around will be protected with canvas and plastic tarps. Additionally, tape will be used to protect any areas where tarps would be impractical.
Step 3: Scraping. Failing paint must be removed. Any loose, flaking and/or peeling paint will be thoroughly hand scraped prior to painting. Cedar wood siding flaking will be wire brushed prior to re-staining
Step 4: Priming Priming bare wood and metal will be done with appropriate primers. Horizontal areas where water may sit creating rusting areas will be given two coats of primer.
Step 5: Caulking. Joints and seams allowing exterior moisture entry will be caulked anywhere that wood meets wood.
Step 6: Removal. Downspouts and address numbers will be removed by the team where applicable.
Step 7: Painting. As you can see, painting doesn’t even begin until we have done a thorough prep job. At this point, painting can proceed using the best quality paints and applicators.
Step 8: Daily Cleaning. On multi-day jobs, we make sure to pack-up and pick up at the end of the day.
Step 9: Final Inspection. Before the crew packs up their equipment, we do a final walk- around to ensure all contracted areas are painted properly..
Step 10: Survey. At the end of each job, we ask our customers to complete a customer satisfaction survey to ensure that all work has been performed to meet or exceed your standards.
